Airline to generate 750 direct and indirect job opportunities during first year.

The carrier hopes to launch its maiden flight from Kochi International Airport.
Dubai: Air Kerala, India’s newest airline backed by UAE investors, has picked Kochi International Airport as its primary operational hub, the airline announced early Thursday morning. The carrier’s first domestic flight is set to take off from Kochi in June this year, with plans for a UAE launch in 2027. The announcement was made at a press conference in Kochi on Wednesday in the presence of several members of the Kerala government, including Industries, Law, and Coir, P. Rajeve.
He said, “Air Kerala’s establishment is a proud moment for the state. It will play a vital role in enhancing connectivity, creating jobs, and promoting tourism.”
Meanwhile, Air Kerala’s Chairman Afi Ahmed – a Dubai-based entrepreneur - said, “Choosing COK as our base reflects our confidence in Kerala’s potential to become a leading aviation hub. We are excited to contribute to and connect the state’s growth to the world.”

The announcement was made at a press conference in Kochi on Wednesday in the presence of several members of the state government and airline officials.

Acquiring aircraft
Air Kerala CEO Harish Kutty said the initial phase will utilize five leased aircraft, each with a 76-seat capacity. An agreement has already been inked with a plane lessor based in Ireland to provide the aircraft. In the next two years, the airline plans to acquire 20 new aircraft.
The airline also aims to expand into international services. In addition to connecting major cities, the airline seeks to reach smaller towns across South India.
Driving employment and economic growth
According to Ahmed, as Kerala’s first airline, the carrier is set to create a lasting impact on the state’s economy. “The airline’s operations will generate 750 direct and indirect job opportunities in its first year,” he said.
There are also hopes that the airline will boost tourism in Kerala. “With affordable fares and accessible routes, the airline seeks to attract global tourists eager to explore Kerala,” he stated.
Harish Kutty, the CEO of Air Kerala, also emphasised the airline's commitment to operating as a true ultra-low-cost airline, making air travel affordable for everyone. “We aim to convert bus and train passengers into air travellers with our attractive fares and unmatched service,” he stated.
